Porcelain Veneer & Crown Procedure Details
Placement of porcelain veneers and crowns involves two to three appointments. The first appointment is a short one. During this appointment, Dr. Blazer will take necessary xrays, photograph the teeth and create models of the teeth. These records will be used by Dr. Blazer to evaluate whether you are a candidate for veneers or crowns.
The second appointment is a longer appointment, usually 2 to 4 hours, depending on the extent of your treatment. The front teeth will be numbed with anesthetic. Oftentimes, you will be given a medication which will relax you during the appointment and headphones to listen to music or watch a movie. Once Dr. Blazer is certain that you are comfortable and that your mouth is numb, we are ready to begin.
To prepare a tooth for a porcelain veneer or crown, enamel is removed off the outer surface and the bottom edge of the tooth. By the time the appointment is over, tooth colored temporaries cover the teeth. These temporaries will remain on the teeth for the length of time it takes the lab to fabricate the new teeth, usually two weeks.
The third appointment is also a longer one. The front teeth will again be numbed with anesthetic. You will again be offered medication for relaxation and headphones to listen to music or watch a movie. The temporaries will be removed and your new smile will appear! A follow up visit is usually scheduled for a week later for minor contouring if necessary and postoperative photos.
Make an appointment with us and you will be able to view some more of the before and after photographs on our walls. Because there is only porcelain and no metal, veneers and crowns are much more natural in appearance than traditional crowns.
